Herein lies bits and pieces of the things I see, think, like, and learn.

Greetings! My name is Katy and I’m considered by many as a “young adult”. As an individual in these unique transitional years, I find myself blindsided daily by new lessons and opportunities to view the world differently. I love documenting life, and as use the medium of photography to capture my everyday surroundings, preserve memories, and examine life. This blog exists to serve as storehouse of lessons and discoveries.

My corner of the world is filled with rolling hills, dramatic sunsets, fresh air, and starlight nights. However, life here is far from perfect, as our communities contain poverty stricken households, steep suicide rates, rampant depression, teen pregnancies, decaying homes, and contagious hopelessness. At the age of 15, friendships were formed which lead me to the start of a friendship with the son of God, Jesus Christ. These new friendships allowed glimpses at healthy households, peace, love, and most importantly, hope in the chance at escaping the pit of despair. In the past six years, I have been transformed in ways unimaginable to the human mind.

At age 21, I don’t admit to having life figured out, or living a perfect life. In fact, I still struggle with some issues I battled at age 15. I still live in a world filled with darkness and have many friends who are entrapped in a world of depression, battle clearing the poverty line, and raising young children alone. But at age 21, I have something 12 year old Katy ignored-I now have a friend and Father who is willing to carry the struggles of life with me. A Father whose love casts out all fear, gifts a peace and hope that can never be purchased, and paints the best sunsets.

Today, I have the blessing of working with a ministry filled with people whose passion is transforming our communities into thriving neighborhoods. I get to work with local colleges, study and map out at-risk areas, and collaborate ways we can improve and create stability. I get to build friendships with teens, and help fill the gaps in their lives to help them become a stable, healthy, and sucessful young adult. It is the best job imaginable.
